The Covid-19 pandemic has had a global effect and this has meant that businesses are having to create a strong virtual presence in order to thrive in their respective markets. Emails are currently being ‘hailed’ as the most effective channel in B2B marketing.
Sending a good email is such an important skill to master, no matter what industry you are in! You never know what doors you might open by simply asking. As they say, the most famous, interesting and powerful people all read their emails, or do they?
Emails create first impressions and in some cases a foundation for long-term professional and personal relationships. They can also drive sales and increase client loyalty.
Classed as a form of marketing, emails reach our target audience directly, and you have a unique opportunity to present yourself and create an impact.
Below are five tips to draft a successful email:
1) Know your target audience!
Targeting, targeting, and more targeting. Make sure your emails are relevant and personalised to each recipient if you want your response rate to rise. Be careful about whom you cc and bcc.
2) Use professional language
Focus on grammar and language. When recipients look at the email and find acronyms such as "HMU or LMK"; That’s hit me up or let me know, they will be put off. Remember: A structured email is important.
Never use fancy, cursive fonts for sending out business emails.Keep an eye on the size of the font. Standard should be 11.
Make sure that your emails are clear and concise. It should not space out randomly. Colours aren't necessary in business emails. Bullet points are the key for clarity.
3)Watch out for the timing
Don’t send out an email that recipients will receive overnight, let it pop up in their inbox during their working hours. Remember – you can test and measure what timing works best for which email.
Bonus Tip: Add a reminder for acknowledging or replying to the email.
4)Be clear and concise
This is vital! Why are you worth paying attention to? You can demonstrate credibility through your previous role(s) or industry experience relevant to the person you are reaching out to.
5)Don't be afraid to follow up
It's recommended to wait for anywhere between 3-5 business days to give your email/note a follow up, as this is a necessary step in successfully making an impression!
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
